Game Reviews

Back with the reviews, and admitantly we skimped on the Resident Evil 4 review because we got a little lazy and Simon took a week off (from what?). Anyway the games good blah blah, but now here we have a new contender to the Blowfish Top 10 games list in the form of God Of War. Is it really so good? Well lets find out.

Now that looks like a rather unfavourable place to be, almost as unfavourable as Victoria Beckhams bed...

God Of War

Very few games make us stop and think whoah when you turn them on. Metal Gear Solid, Vice City, and Resi 2 did and so does God of War. From the off this game is fantastic.

You start off the game on a boat being attacked by some giant sea serpants and minions, you fight your way through and how great that is! Theres nothing more satisfying than a simple yet dazzling combo that you never get bored of. This game perfects it. You can rip enemies in half, disembowl them and throw them at there comrades...great fun.

The controls are intuiative and sensible, and the flow of the game is fast. Boy you'll need an extra set of thumbs with this game because after 3 minutes we were grabbing our throbbing hands.

Graphically the game is sorted, although some of the lower rank monsters look a little shoddy. Check out the first boss above, this fight really does rock and really utalises the PS2's power. The character Kratos is truely one of those its good to be bad charaters but you do love him, despite all the disembowling and ripping heads off villagers. The special attacks are delightful (not for the enemies) but you never lose interest for your basic ones either. Only one flaw comes later on in the game when you have to assend something (wont give it away) and its the only time the controls ever let you down. This is a solid game and well worth buying.

A truelly original game

Donkey Konga

Donkey Konga is one of those strangely addicitive games that comes around out of the blue each year. When we played an early copy of the game I was less than impressed. However the final version is great. Its addicitve and fun to play.

The game involves you hitting certain points on the bongos and clapping in time to the symbols on screen, (like a dance mat with your hands really). Its very easy to pick up and impossible to put down. You only quit playing because your arms are near to dropping off! My only quiblle is the lifespan on this game, despite several bonus modes the game may get tired of quickly. However it would be a great game at a new years party with all your mates after youve had a few pints

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid returns with eager antisipation and vigor in an attempt to once and for all prove its one of the most essential game ever!  Big Boss makes a first playable appearence in the series and adds depth to a cracking storyine!

The game plays fantasically! At first you feel that Hideo Kojima may have broke MGS3 but after a few hours your hooked! The extra moves are well used, being able to climb trees, and interrogate guards works well. The combat system works much better and now you no longer need to shy away from close quarters.

Also the new stamina system works well and is original, whereby you must replemish Snakes stamina in order to recover health, run faster and fight.
